Peter Moores says Nottinghamshire were “on it from ball one” as they skittled a Barbados Select XI for 92.

Luke Fletcher (4-24) and Luke Wood (3-18) earned particular praise from the Head Coach, who saw strong signs that Nottinghamshire are ready for the start of the season.

Notts had faced the same young side in a Twenty20 match at Paragon military base on Saturday, but this match took place at the Desmond Haynes Oval in Black Rock.

The tourists dismissed their opponents in double-quick time before choosing to try and chase down 250 for more match practice, but they were dismissed for 138 in 38.2 overs as the wicket deteriorated badly.

Samit Patel top scored with 38, while Michael Lumb made 29. Moores took more positives than negatives from the game.

“It was a tough pitch to play on. We bowled and fielded brilliantly early on and put them under pressure,” he said.

“That was a great sign that we’re starting to sharpen into match mode. We were on it from ball one.

“Fletcher and Wood bowled beautifully with the new ball. They were backed up brilliantly by the other bowlers so it was a really good performance.

“After that we tried to setup a game where we chased a bigger score. It didn’t quite work because the pitch deteriorated but it was a good day in many ways.

“We’d have liked for the batters to have more time in the middle but part of this whole exercise is getting used to being competitive again.”
